Three Israeli soldiers who had taken part in Tel Aviv’s recent war on the Gaza Strip have taken their own lives due to psychological problems, a report says.
Israeli daily Maariv reported Monday that the soldiers, who were members of the elite Golani Brigade, “had suffered psychological problems" in connection to their participation in the 50-day war.
It added that two soldiers had committed suicide near the border with the Gaza Strip, while a third killed himself in central Israel.
The newspaper added that the Israeli military police are investigating reasons behind the suicides.
The Israeli army has not made any comment about the incident.
In 2013, eight Israeli soldiers had killed themselves, according to a source in the army's psychological health department.
Israel unleashed attacks on Gaza in early July and later expanded its military campaign with a ground invasion into the Palestinian territory. Over 2,130 Palestinians lost their lives and some 11,000 were injured. Gaza Health officials say the victims included 578 children and nearly 260 women.

According to Israeli sources, more than 70 Israelis were also killed. Palestinian officials put this number at more than 150.

"Sex between brothers and sisters should be LEGAL"

Sex between brothers and sisters should be LEGAL, says German government’s Ethics Council

  • Council spoke of right of 'adult siblings to sexual self-determination'
  • Said this was more important than 'abstract idea of protection of the family'
  • Dismissed claim that incest causes disabilities as not having enough weight
  • Argued those who have genetic defects are not banned from having children
  • Comes after case of brother imprisoned for having four children with sister
  • He was adopted, and pair met for first time when he was 24 and she was 16
  • Two of Patrick Stuebing and Susan Karolewski's children are disabled
  • Stuebing failed in 2012 appeal to have his family brought back together
Incest laws could be scrapped in Germany after the government's ethics council said sex between brothers and sisters should be legal and is a 'fundamental right'.
The council recommended that the right of 'adult siblings to sexual self-determination' was more important then the 'abstract idea of protection of the family'.
It comes after the case of Patrick Stuebing, who was jailed for more than three years after having four children - two of which are disabled  - with his sister Susan Karolewski.
The German Ethics Council has suggested that sex between brothers and sisters should be legalised

Stuebing was put up for adoption as a toddler and only met his sister when he was 24 and she was 16. He was imprisoned for incest in 2008.
He made an unsuccessful appeal to the European Court of Human Rights in 2012 over his right to a family life - as he and Ms Karolewski were split up and three of their children were taken into care. The youngest was allowed to remain with Ms Karolewski.
The German Ethics Council said in a statement that 'criminal law is not the appropriate means to preserve a social taboo', adding that the risk of disability to children is enough to warrant incest being illegal.
the suggestion of decriminalising incest comes after the case of Patrick Stuebing, who was jailed for more than three years after having four children - two of which are disabled - with his sister Susan Karolewski

'Neither the consequences for the family nor the possibility for descendants from such incestuous relationships can justify a ban under criminal law,' it said.
'Incest between siblings appears to be very rare in Western societies according to the available data but those affected describe how difficult their situation is in light of the threat of punishment.

THE INCESTUOUS RELATIONSHIP WHICH COULD CHANGE THE LAW

Patrick Stuebing, born in Leipzig, Germany in 1977, was fostered at the age of three after being attacked with a knife by his alcoholic father, and did not meet his mother or sister again until he was 23.
He says his relationship with Susan Karolewski became incestuous six months after their mother died from a heart attack in 2001, and Ms Karolewski gave birth to their first child in October of that year, when she was 16.
Two of their children have severe mental and physical disabilities, and another has a heart condition which required a transplant.
Stuebing was sentenced to 10 moths in prison after his second incest conviction, and then a further two and a half years for his third conviction.
'They feel their fundamental freedoms have been violated and are forced into secrecy or to deny their love.
'The Ethics Council has been told of cases where half-siblings did not grow up together and have only met in their adult lives,' The Independent reported it saying.
Despite saying that sex between brothers and sisters should be made legal, the council recommended that sex between parents and children should remain against the law.
It is believed that incest increases the risk of children being born with disabilities, but the Ethics Council dismissed this as an argument for it being illegal, saying that couples with genetic defects are not banned from having children.
However, Chancellor Angela Merkel's CDU party have been quick to push away the idea of legalising incest.
Spokeswoman Elisabeth Winkelmeier-Becker said that it would give out the wrong signal, telling Deutsche Welle: 'Abolishing criminal punishment against incestuous actions within a family would go completely against protecting the undisturbed development of children.'
Around two to four per cent of Germans have had 'incestuous experiences', according to an estimate by the Max Planck Institute reported by The Telegraph.
Incest is illegal in the UK and most of Europe, though sex between consenting adults who are related is legal in France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Luxembourg and The Netherlands.

The Indonesian province of Aceh on Sept. 27 approved a bill that converts  strict Islamic Sharia rules on morality into the province's criminal law, including a punishment of 100 lashes for homosexuality and extramarital sex, Australia’s SBS News and BuzzFeed reported.
The law, which also applies to non-Muslims, also punishes the drinking of alcohol, gambling, and mixing between men and women, SBS News stated.
Aceh won autonomy — and the right to impose Sharia codes — in 2001 as part of a deal to end a long-running fight for independence from Indonesia, making it one of the few places in Southeast Asia under Sharia laws, BuzzFeed reported. The small Southeast Asian state of Brunei has come under intense pressure after imposing an even more severe set of rules earlier this year, BuzzFeed said.
SBS reported:
Ramli Sulaiman, chairman of an Aceh parliamentary commission that drafted the law, said proving extramarital and gay sex would be difficult.
"There must be clear evidence and four witnesses who saw the act themselves," he said.
"We can't just accuse people of having extramarital or homosexual sex."
The law also applies to non-Muslims, but they can choose to be punished under sharia law or secular national law, he said.
Amnesty International criticised the law as "an enormous step backwards for human rights".
"Laws that criminalise sex outside marriage violate the right to privacy and are used disproportionately to police and punish women's choices," said Richard Bennett, Amnesty's Asia-Pacific director.
"They also act as a deterrent to women reporting rape and sexual violence who may fear being accused of sex outside marriage."
Amnesty said at least 156 people have been caned in Aceh since 2010 for offences such as gambling, mixing with the opposite sex and selling food during the Ramadan fasting month.
Officials said canings are mainly intended to humiliate rather than hurt the offenders.
Aceh is the only Indonesian province allowed to impose sharia, as part of the central government's attempts to pacify a clamour for independence.

Illiza Sa’aduddin Djamal, the deputy mayor of Banda Aceh, the province's capital, had been pushing for the legislation since at least May 2014, according to the Jakarta Globe.
“There is no law that could be used to charge them,” the newspaper quoted Illiza as saying. “The existing [regulations] only stipulate about khalwat [being in close proximity] for intimate relations between unmarried males and females.” Banda Aceh’s Shariah Police have struggled to crack down on same-sex relationships, Illiza said. Couples meet in rented rooms and pursue relationships under a veil of secrecy, she said.
“Even if one case of homosexuality found, it’s already a problem… we are really concerned about the behavior and activities of the gay community, because their behavior is deviating from the Islamic Shariah,” Illiza stated.
The Aceh proposal continues a legislative and human-rights struggle that has been going on for years. As the Star Observer of Australia reported in 2009:
"In 2002 the Indonesian Government granted legal autonomy to Aceh, allowing the province to institute Islamic Sharia law, a framework that explicitly punishes homosexual acts.
"It was subsequently reported that 52 regions across the islands of Sumatra and Java adopted laws prohibiting homosexuality, including the city of Palembang in South Sumatra where punishment includes jail and fines.
"Indonesian lobby group Arus Pelangi launched a campaign against these regional statutes in October 2006. Many LGBT people are arrested and detained, often without charges or clear reason, only to be released after a few days, Arus Pelangi spokesman Widodo Budi said."

UN Special Rapporteur alarmed by devastating impact of Gaza conflict on Palestinian civilians

UN Special Rapporteur alarmed by devastating impact of Gaza conflict on Palestinian civilians

GENEVA (29 September 2014) – The Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, Makarim Wibisono, today expressed alarm at the terrible cost paid by Palestinian civilians, especially children in Gaza, as a result of Israel’s military operation that lasted 50 days from 7 July to 26 August this year.

The latest round of violence has left 1,479 civilians, including 506 children dead. A staggering 11,231 Palestinian civilians, including 3,436 children were injured, many, now struggling with life-long disabilities. Tens of thousands of children live with the trauma of having witnessed the horrific killings of family members, friends, and neighbours before their own eyes.

“This raises serious questions about possible violations of international humanitarian law and human rights law,” Mr. Wibisono said at the end of his first mission to the region.

“Israel’s claim of self-defense against an occupied population living under a blockade considered to be illegal under international law is untenable,” he said. “In a population where over half of the 1.8 million people are under 18, this is truly a tragedy, which will be felt for generations to come.”

The Special Rapporteur noted that there wasn’t a single child in Gaza who has not been adversely affected by the conflict. Children now suffer from bedwetting, difficulties in sleeping, nightmares, a loss of appetite, and schools are seeing more aggressive behaviour in pupils.

It is estimated that 7,000 unexploded ordinances are still littered across the Gaza Strip, continuing to pose a serious threat to Gazans, including children.

In the 50 days of relentless bombing and shelling, 228 schools in Gaza were damaged, including 26 destroyed or damaged beyond repair. 87 schools are now operating double shifts. The Special Rapporteur was informed that temporary psychosocial support has been made available for those children lucky enough to be able to return to school, but those children who have lost parents will require long-term professional support and counseling.

An estimated 60,000 civilians remain in 19 shelters across the Gaza Strip. With winter coming soon, there is need for rapid reconstruction, and an urgent need for temporary housing to restore hope and dignity to the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Meanwhile, health professionals in Gaza also reported a critical shortage of medicines and equipment, and doctors expressed frustration at the shortage of electricity, as mobile generators were overburdened beyond their capacity.

“Israel must immediately lift the seven year land, sea and air blockade of Gaza, and urgently allow needed materials for reconstruction and recovery,” Mr. Wibisono urged.

The Special Rapporteur also raised serious concerns on the deteriorating situation of human rights in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, regarding the excessive use of force by Israeli Security Forces in the context of demonstrations and clashes in recent months.

Wibisono urged Israel to comply with the Basic Principles on the Use of Force and Firearms, noting that during the period from 12 June to 31 August 2014, a total of 27 Palestinians were killed, of whom five were children, with the youngest victim only 11 years-old.

“The use of live ammunition against Palestinians even if they were throwing stones, is unjustifiable,” the UN expert said.

On the imminent risk of 6 Plans being approved which would lead to the forcible transfer and forced eviction of thousands of Bedouins and herders from the East Jerusalem periphery and the Jordan Valley, and the demolition of Bedouin homes and schools, Mr. Wibisono stated that such practices would violate international humanitarian and human rights law and must cease immediately. No one should be moved against their will.

“The affected communities have opposed these plans, and wish to remain in their current location,” he said. Mr. Wibisono also called for adequate planning and access to public infrastructures for these Bedouin communities.

If implemented, these plans will further disconnect East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank, disrupt the territorial contiguity of occupied Palestine, and pave the way for further expansion of Israeli settlements, and of the Wall.

Mr. Wibisono noted that voices from across the Occupied Palestinian Territory called in unison for three demands: the need for accountability, an end to the blockade, and an end to the occupation.

“Those responsible for violations of international law must be brought to justice in order to avoid yet another round of deadly violence in the near future,” he said.

During his visit to the region, Mr. Wibisono met with Palestinian officials, civil society representatives, human rights defenders and victims among others in Amman, Cairo, and in Gaza via video and teleconference, as Israel did not grant access to the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

In Amman, the UN expert also visited patients from Gaza receiving treatment at King Hussein hospital. Among them was Manar, a 14 year-old girl from Beit Hanoun, who lost both her legs, and suffered shrapnel wounds and internal injuries when an Israeli strike hit an UNRWA school. Manar also lost her mother and three brothers in the same attack.

The Special Rapporteur will report fully on his findings and recommendations to the 28th session of the Human Rights Council in March 2015.

In 2014, the UN Human Rights Council designated Makarim Wibisono (Indonesia) as the sixth Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967. The mandate was originally established in 1993 by the then UN Commission on Human Rights. As Special Rapporteur, Mr. Wibisono is independent from any government or organization and serves in his individual capacity. World In Shock After America Lies Its Way Into War Again

World In Shock After America Lies Its Way Into War Again
Posted: 28 Sep 2014 11:32 AM PDT

It’s hard to believe, but it is nevertheless true, that just one year ago this month the world was celebrating because the Obama regime and its war-hawk allies were stopped dead in their tracks in their plan to start a new war against Syria…and by extension World War III.
The cause célèbre for the September, 2013 war against Syria, used by the Obama regime and its allies, was a deadly chemical gas attack upon hundreds of Syrian civilians by the regime of Bashar al-Assad.
This blatant lie was quickly exposed by many, including the world-famous American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, and who in his scathing report on this chemical attack proved it was actually carried out by Syrian “rebel” forces acting at the behest of Turkey, for the purpose of providing a pretext for a US attack on Syria.
Mind you, not one single major American or British news organization reported the truth of this deadly chemical attack to their citizens, rather it was left to us “conspiracy theorists” to make sure the truth was told….and (thankfully) enough people heard the truth and stopped the madness…but only for awhile.
Now at this point it’s critical that I remind you of what is really going on here and why Syria is so important…and as we’ve, likewise, told you many times before.
There is now an existential crisis in our world between the United States-European Union-Russia-China (and all their respective allies) over the future of the global economy…specifically what is going to be the reserve currency of the 21st Century for the purchase of oil and gas.
Currently the global reserve currency is the US Dollar, which allows the American Federal Reserve to literally print money to support not only their economy, but that of the European Union too…so much so that just during one week alone in 2011, the Federal Reserve kept 523 EU banks from collapsing by giving them €489 billion ($638 billion).
Russia and China have a BIG problem with the US and EU making money out of nothing and then using that monetary “power” to bully everyone else they disagree with…so this past May they signed an historic €315 billion ($400 billion) deal that prices gas in their currencies instead of the US Dollar.
Both the US and EU are now terrified that Russia is going to begin demanding payment for both oil in gas in either Russian Rubles or Chinese Yuan…and that is exactly what Russia did last month when for the first time it started selling oil for Rubles instead of US Dollars.
And when (not if) Russia tells the 28 Member States of the European Union, and their 505 million citizens, to start paying for gas and oil in anything other than US Dollars? Well, the answer is simple…the US will stand exposed for the hypocritical nation it has become.
And what is the ONLY thing the US can do to stop this? Simple…they have to completely take over Syria!
If the US is successful in taking over Syria then they can build the pipelines they need from both Qatar and Saudi Arabia…connect them to new pipelines in Turkey…extend them into the EU, and then the Europeans and Americans can keep the US Dollar as the reserve currency of the 21st Century and keep the printing presses running.
Russia, in case you haven’t noticed, isn’t taking this threat lying down either as it continues to extend its pipeline network with the South Stream Pipeline that bypasses Ukraine and will ensure the EU has gas supplies well into this century.
In order to protect the US Dollar, the Americans have sided with the most brutal branch of Islam called the Sunnis…Russia on the other hand, in order to protect its economy, has sided with the more moderate Islamic branch called the Shiites.
The US protected Sunnis (Arab) run governments that are composed of Kings, Emirs and military dictators who do not allow their citizens to vote or their women to have absolutely no rights. (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordon, etc.)
The Russia protected Shiite (Persian) governments are composed as theocracies like Israel but do allow their citizens to vote and their women to have limited rights. (Iran, Syria, Lebanon and now Iraq)
The US protected Sunnis comprised nearly 70% of Islamic terrorists world-wide. The Russian protected Shiites, on the other hand, rarely ever attack Western interests using their capacities, instead, against Sunni terror groups.
Now with the Obama regime having failed to start their Syrian war last year after their lies were exposed for the whole world to see…they then came back in 2014 with a much more devious plan…the number one component being to keep Russia sidelined.
Towards that end, in February, they toppled the democratically elected government of Ukraine and installed a right-wing neo-Nazi government…to which Russia promptly responded.
At the same time, along with Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the Obama regime created, trained and funded the terror group known as the Islamic State (ISIS or ISIL), allowed them to rampage throughout both Syria and Iraq, then labeled them an existential threat, and is currently waging war against them along with their EU allies and Sunni monarchy lapdogs.
And what is the most astounding thing about this whole mess? You are not allowed by either your government or you press to know even the most basic truth about what is going on.
Pipelines…Reserve Currencies…Petrodollars…Sunnis…Shiites…none of these are you allowed to know about…even though your future depends on the outcome.
And this is really serious stuff…so serious that Pope Francis last week warned that all of us are effectively in a ‘piecemeal” Third World War…and it’s going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.
So with the failing of both your government and press to keep you even the most basically informed, therefore, it falls upon us (and others like us) to keep the truth flowing to you…and here’s just a small glimpse of how well we’ve done:
On 9 July in our article Germany Races To Stop US-Backed July Terror Attack we alerted you to the strong likelihood of the Obama regime conducting a false flag operation due to their failures in Ukraine.
Eight days later, on 17 July, Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was destroyed over Ukraine in a false flag operation designed to blame Russia…but as you know this backfired on the US and now the Obama regime is totally silent on this matter.
On 13 June in our article Russia Issues Grim Report On North American Magnetic Anomaly (and other subsequent reports) we alerted you to the factors destabilizing parts of the American west coast.
Barely seven weeks later, on 24 August, Northern California had its largest earthquake in 25 years…and parts of this area are still experiencing earthquake swarms.
On 8 September in our article Obama Regime Silent As Massive Polio Outbreak Sweeps America we warned you about the “mysterious virus” spreading dreaded disease that had affected 11 US States since it was first spotted in California this past February.
Barely a month later, on 26 September, US health authorities were forced to admit that this virus has paralyzed children (that’s what polio does) and, on 27 September, further admitted that this virus had spread to 38 States.
On 13 August in our article titled Ebola Apocalypse “Mysteries” Raises Biowarfare Fears (and other subsequent reports) we warned you about the spread of this disease and how it was going to get much worse in spite of what the Western “experts” were saying.
New reports from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are saying this week there could be up to 1.5 million more people infected by Ebola by January.
And let’s not forget our 9 August article New Jersey Governor Awarded Top Nazi Medal From German Terror Group that highlighted the story of a young black mother named Shaneen Allen, with no criminal record, threatened with up to 10 years in prison for the crime of mistakenly carrying her legal and permitted handgun across State lines from Pennsylvania to New Jersey.
This past week, on 25 September, the New Jersey prosecutor gave up and stopped prosecuting this young black mother due to the public backlash generated by us and others like us…with one of them stating: “If Allen had remained an unknown, she would be on her way to prison.
And in the essence of that statement (“If Allen had remained an unknown, she would be on her way to prison.”) is why we exist…to make known to you what is hidden…to explain to you even the most complex of issues in the simplest terms possible…to forewarn you about things so that you can prepare…and most importantly…to stand for the truth being denied you by your government and press.
In his seminal work 1984, George Orwell wrote: “Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing.”
In his seminal article How Covert Agents Infiltrate the Internet to Manipulate, Deceive, and Destroy Reputations, Glenn Greenwald, using documents released by Edward Snowden, details how the Obama regime is exactly using those tactics Orwell warned about in order to destroy your minds and remake them.
The world Orwell describes in 1984 is beyond chilling…and what Greenwald explains using the US governments own documents is how Obama and his oligarchs are making 1984 not just a book, but a reality.
And all that’s left standing in their way is YOU and US….but history has long proven that if that bond is strong enough it can win out!
Now to keep that bond strong, and make it even stronger, WE NEED YOU TODAY!
There is absolutely no way we can survive without you….and if you don’t have us, and others like us, how can you survive?
The ONLY question you need ask yourself is this… “Does my government and press lie to me?”
If the answer is no, then all the best to you.
If the answer is YES, then help us keep going so we can keep the truth flowing to you.

New picketing effort at Port of Oakland prevents Israeli-owned cargo ship from unloading after similar incident last month

Protesters demonstrating against the recent Israeli military operation in Gaza have launched a fresh picket at the Port of Oakland in California, preventing an Israeli-owned container ship from unloading its cargo.

A picket of about 200 pro-Palestinian demonstrators campaigning under the title “Block the Boat” assembled on Saturday alongside the Zim Shanghai, a massive, 300-meter commercial vessel. No cargo was unloaded after members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union refused to work on the ship, citing safety fears due to the crowd of protesters and police.

One of the protest organizers, Steve Zeltzer, said: “I think it was a big victory today for those who are opposed to the policies of Israel in Gaza.”

The successful action to frustrate the unloading of the Zim Shanghai follows similar protests last month in ports along the coast of California and in Florida. The Zim Shanghai’s sister ship, the Zim Piraeus, was blockaded for four days and prevented from unloading at the same port in Oakland. In the end, the vessel had to make its way to Los Angeles with its cargo still on board.

Further protests were staged in Seattle, Tacoma and Long Beach ports in California, and Tampa in Florida.

The frustrated shipments all belonged to the Zim Integrated Shipping Services, Israel’s largest cargo-shipping business and one of the biggest in the world. According to the company’s website, it has an annual turnover of almost $4bn and delivers to 180 ports around the world.

The picketers said they were protesting against Israel’s 50-day military intervention in Gaza this summer, which is said to have caused almost $8bn in damages and killed more than 2,000 Palestinians. The Israeli government said the action was necessary to destroy tunnels built by Hamas for launching attacks inside Israel; 70 Israelis died during the conflict.

A report posted on Pro-Israel Bay Bloggers accused the protesters of intimidating the dockers and said the action would harm the economy of Oakland.

“Who will pay the ultimate cost of this cheap symbolic ‘victory’?” the post asked. “The port will suffer for this. And the thousands of people who rely on the port for their livelihood will suffer. Ultimately, Oakland will suffer.”

According to marine trackers, by Sunday afternoon the Zim Shanghai had left Oakland with its cargo still on board and, like the Zim Piraeus last month, was making its way to Los Angeles.

Soon you will see ads, courtesy of Pamela Geller, in the New York City subway system that state, “Islamic Jew-Hatred: It’s in the Qur’an.”
Is she right?
It’s easy to understand why many Jews might think so. Anti-Semitism has become a frightening force in much of the Muslim world, and a recent Anti-Defamation League study has shown that anti-Semitism is more common in Muslim majority countries than in any other region identified by religion, culture or geography. Muslims need to address this problem for many reasons, not least of which is that anti-Semitism reflects deep ignorance and a willingness to be manipulated by simplistic propaganda that is harmful to Muslims as well as Jews.
But anti-Semitism is not found in the Qur’an.
This may be difficult to fathom given the recent heated public discussion. Some people cite what appear to be obviously angry and seemingly hateful negative references to Jews in the Qur’an. Others argue that these verses are taken out of context. They cite counter-verses from the same Qur’an that appear to respect Jews and even refer to Jews using the same positive language reserved for followers of Muhammad.
So what’s the real story? As usual, the issue is not so simple, and many on both sides of the debate do us all a disservice with their hyperbole and naïve arguments.
Yes, the Qur’an contains verses that refer negatively to Jews. In order to understand these verses, we must read them both in relation to the fullness of the scripture in which they are located (synchronically), and also in relation to how other scriptures treat non-believers (diachronically).
Let’s start with the synchronic reading. Negative references to Jews in the Qur’an occur in relation to negative references to other communities, all of which opposed the emergence of the new Arabian prophet and his revelation. The Jewish communities of Arabia, like the Christian, Zoroastrian and native polytheist communities, did not accept the prophetic status of Muhammad. A few individual Jews and Christians joined his movement, but when they did they voted themselves out of their native religious communities.
This is a natural occurrence. No established religion is willing to discard the canon of its own scripture in order to accept a new prophet with a new revelation. Islam fits into this pattern as well, since it refuses to accept the prophetic status of new divine messengers who emerged out of its own tradition, such as the prophets of the Baha’i faith or the Ahmadiyya.
The Jews of Arabia were greatly respected and influential in Arabia during Muhammad’s lifetime. Because of their status, their refusal as a community to acknowledge his prophethood was a major impediment to the new movement and was condemned by the Qur’an as obstinacy, and hard-headedness. The Qur’an criticizes local Jews, for example, when it states, “Many of the People of the Book would like to turn you back to unbelievers after your having believed, because of envy on their part after the truth has become clear to them” (Q.2:109).
Established religions are never welcoming to new religions, and the disappointment, resentment and anger of newly emerging religions toward established religions that refuse to embrace them is found in all monotheistic scriptures. Many are familiar with the negative references to Jews in parts of the New Testament such as Matthew 23 and John 8. As in the Qur’an, these texts reflect the shock and resentment of those believing in a new redemptive and charismatic leader. They simply could not understand why members of established religions would refuse to join their program.
Negative references to Jews in both scriptures reflect reactive anger and zealous resentment. They do not represent a program to vilify, demonize or scapegoat Jews.
Jews are naturally sensitive to negative references to Jews in other scriptures, but are usually unaware of the same phenomenon of othering in their own scripture. The Hebrew Bible is full of reactive anger and zealous resentment toward competing religious communities. Canaanites, Egyptians and other members of established religious peoples are depicted repeatedly in the Hebrew Bible as spiteful, wicked and mortal enemies of ancient Israel. But most of those portrayed as evil opponents were simply members of established religions who felt threatened by Israelite successes in conquest and expansion. Like the Jews and Christians of Arabia, they opposed the emergence of a new, competitive religious community. The Israelite claims to being God’s chosen people with an exclusive relationship with the one God of the universe (who happened to be called the God of Israel!) could only have added to the tension.
These are all cases of the natural tension that occurs with the birth of new religions. Established religions resent and oppose them — just think of “cults” as new religions in order to understand the mindset. Like the Hebrew Bible and New Testament, the Qur’an includes material that reflects this frustration. It does not express anti-Semitism, Jew-hatred or racism.
Anti-Semitism is caused by different forces, which scapegoat Jews by manipulating people through deceitful deflection of criticism onto Jews. Those who engage in the deception use anything they can to further their aims, including scripture. Negative scriptural references to non-believers exist in all scriptures, and they are sometimes cited and manipulated by hateful people to encourage violence and even slaughter of the religious other. But it’s important for Jews to understand that anti-Semitism is no more basic to Islam than hatred of all non-Jews is basic to Judaism, an old anti-Semitic screed that was often claimed by citing scriptural citations from the Hebrew Bible.
Many writings single out and disparage particular communities, and any kind of “othering” is problematic. We need to be able to distinguish between normal even if problematic cases, and those that are truly hateful and absolutely unacceptable cases of racism, anti-Semitism or Islamophobia. Reacting to every negative reference to Jews as anti-Semitic is unwise, simplistic and dangerous. Don’t be fooled by frightened people into the naïve and simplistic conclusion that any negative reference to Jews is anti-Semitism.

White House intruder made it much farther into building than previously known
The man who jumped the White House fence this month and sprinted through the front door made it much farther into the building than previously known, overpowering one Secret Service officer and running through much of the main floor, according to three people familiar with the incident.

An alarm box near the front entrance of the White House designed to alert guards to an intruder had been muted at what officers believed was a request of the usher’s office, said a Secret Service official who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

OBAMA: U.S. INTELLIGENCE FAILED TO FULLY IDENTIFY ISIS THREAT

OBAMA: U.S. INTELLIGENCE FAILED TO FULLY IDENTIFY ISIS THREAT “President Barack Obama said U.S. intelligence underestimated that the political chaos in Syria over the past several years would create an environment for extremist group Islamic State to thrive. ‘This became ground zero for jihadists around the world,’ he said.” Airstrikes against ISIS targets continued in Syria this weekend. And the Twitter account of an al Qaeda member suggests the leader of the Khorasan terrorist cell was killed in the first round of airstrikes last week. [WSJ]
