Shooting the messenger: Citizen journalists jailed for recording police

Shooting the messenger: Citizen journalists jailed for recording police

RT | August 27, 2016
Police practices are under fire as more and more recordings of excessive force and racist behavior surface. Some police departments have responded by trying to work with communities to regain trust lost, while others try to silence whistleblowers.
The availability of smartphones and cameras has empowered citizens to become guerrilla journalists who feel protected by the First Amendment. However, many have been shocked to discover revealing police misconduct may result in being targeted and harassed by law enforcement.
Filmmakers David Felix Sutcliffe and Laura Poitras have asked the documentary community to show their solidarity for civilian journalists by signing a petition. So far, the petition has at least 306 names, including multiple Academy Award-winning and nominated documentarians.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation has endorsed their petition, saying in a statement, “Arrests of grassroots journalists who record police activities implicate not only the 1st and 14th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, but also the very legitimacy of our legal system, which grounds its claim to power in impartiality. Yet, around the country, the law has subjected to penalties people pursuing constitutionally protected activities that enhance transparency, while turning a blind eye to the violence prompting residents to place themselves at risk.”
The petition asks the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate the arrests of civilian journalists who film police actions. This shouldn’t be a difficult request, because the DOJ has acknowledged it as a problem in prior investigations.
In the DOJ’s 2015 report on the Ferguson Police Department (FPD), they wrote, “FPD officers also routinely infringe on the public’s First Amendment rights by preventing people from recording their activities,” and “the federal courts of appeal have held that the First Amendment ‘unambiguously’ establishes a constitutional right to videotape police activities.”
Despite this, citizens who record police often find themselves in the crosshairs. For example, the day after Chris LeDay filmed the death of Alton Sterling, he was detained after police told him that he “fit the description” of someone wanted on battery charges. He would end up spending the night in jail for unpaid fines, Complex reported.
Abdullah Muflahi owned the convenience store Sterling died in front of and is now suing the Baton Rouge Police Department after that they detained him for four hours while they confiscated his store’s security system along with his cellphone, the Daily Beast reported.
While police may be more aware of citizens’ rights to film them, they still have the power to make watchdogs and whistleblowers’ lives miserable. For example, Ramsey Orta’s name became public news when in 2014, he recorded the death of Eric Garner at the hands of the New York Police Department (NYPD).
Since then, Orta found himself on the NYPD’s radar. He claims they’ve harassed and targeted him. In January, he told Democracy Now! that after telling the Daily Mail he had a video of Eric Garner’s arrest, he was targeted.
“From then on, I’ve been targeted by the NYPD,” he said, explaining “I got five pending cases right now—two in Supreme Court, three in criminal. Since then, I’ve just been harassed. I’ve been almost killed in Rikers Island.”
It was not just him, but his family as well. His wife was arrested on assault charges.
“She got arrested for assault charges that were allegedly caught on camera,” Orta explained, but the charges were mysteriously dropped when they arrived at court.
His stints at Rikers Island were fraught with tension, as he only ate pre-packaged commissary foods after learning that guards were slipping rat poison into the food, he told Vice. In fact, a local New York newspaper managed to get photos of rat poison tablets in meatloaf.
Unfortunately for Ramsey, some of the charges thrown at him have managed to stick. On Saturday, he will begin serving four years on drug and weapons charges.
On his last day of freedom, he spoke with RT about what he experienced. He told RT that, “Internal Affairs came to my house, tried to get the video from me.”
Orta was no stranger to recording police activities prior to Garner’s death; he had been posting videos of what he believed to be excessive force on YouTube. However, he believes that the ability to do so may be at risk.
“That’s the only reason why they’re trying to pass laws to lock people up for it” he said.
Orta mentioned spending time with Kevin Moore, the man who filmed Freddie Gray’s arrest. Moore was arrested at a protest in May 2015 in a move that he believes was a form of witness intimidation. He told Vice that the police “waited until I got away from the protest and my people to protect me.”
Following the death of Freddie Gray, Moore was surprised to see his own face and personal information shared on the internet, saying he was wanted for questioning.
“They plastered my picture all over the internet hoping people would come forward and tell on me,” he said.
But for those who are willing to film, he advises anyone to “Make sure you have a legal team backing you up.”

Colin Kaepernick explains why he sat during national anthem

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has willingly immersed himself into controversy by refusing to stand for the playing of the national anthem in protest of what he deems are wrongdoings against African Americans and minorities in the United States.
His latest refusal to stand for the anthem -- he has done this in at least one other preseason game -- came before the 49ers' preseason loss to Green Bay at Levi's Stadium on Friday night.
"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game. "To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."
The 49ers issued a statement about Kaepernick's decision: "The national anthem is and always will be a special part of the pre-game ceremony. It is an opportunity to honor our country and reflect on the great liberties we are afforded as its citizens. In respecting such American principles as freedom of religion and freedom of expression, we recognize the right of an individual to choose and participate, or not, in our celebration of the national anthem."
Niners coach Chip Kelly told reporters Saturday that Kaepernick's decision not to stand during the national anthem is "his right as a citizen" and said "it's not my right to tell him not to do something."
The NFL also released a statement, obtained by NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport: "Players are encouraged but not required to stand during the playing of the national anthem."
By taking a stand for civil rights, Kaepernick, 28, joins other athletes, like the NBA's Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony and several WNBA players in using their platform and status to raise awareness to issues affecting minorities in the U.S.
However, refusal to support the American flag as a means to take a stand has brought incredible backlash before and likely will in this instance. The NBA's Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf of the Denver Nuggets, formerly Chris Jackson before converting to Islam, refused to acknowledge the flag in protest, citing similar reasons as Kaepernick and saying that it conflicted with some of his Islamic beliefs.
Abdul-Rauf drew the ire of fans and was briefly suspended by the NBA before a compromise was worked out between the league and player, who eventually stood with his teammates and coaches at the playing of the national anthem.
Kaepernick said that he is aware of what he is doing and that he knows it will not sit well with a lot of people, including the 49ers. He said that he did not inform the club or anyone affiliated with the team of his intentions to protest the national anthem.
"This is not something that I am going to run by anybody," he said. "I am not looking for approval. I have to stand up for people that are oppressed. ... If they take football away, my endorsements from me, I know that I stood up for what is right."
Kaepernick said that he has thought about going public with his feelings for a while but that "I felt that I needed to understand the situation better."
He said that he has discussed his feelings with his family and, after months of witnessing some of the civil unrest in the U.S., decided to be more active and involved in rights for black people. Kaepernick, who is biracial, was adopted and raised by white parents and siblings.
Kaepernick's Twitter feed is filled with civil rights messages.
The former Super Bowl starting quarterback's decision to go public comes while he is fighting for his football life with the 49ers, who drafted him in the second round in 2011. He lost his starting job last season after being one of the most promising players in the NFL during his run under former coach Jim Harbaugh.
Over the past few months, his relationship with management has turned sour. He requested a trade last spring, which never came. He also has spent most of the offseason rehabilitating from operations to his left (non-throwing) shoulder, his hand and knee. His recovery left him unable to fully compete with Blaine Gabbert for months and has him seemingly in a bind to regain his starting job.
He made his preseason debut against the Packers and played in the second quarter, completing two of six passes for 14 yards. He looked as rusty as you'd expect from someone who has not played since last November.
Following the game, and without any knowledge of Kaepernick's non-football behavior, coach Chip Kelly said that there has never been any discussion about cutting Kaepernick. Rapoport added Saturday that Kelly will make "football decisions" on Kaepernick, despite the quarterback's comments.

Trump Appears to Gloat Over Chicago Shooting

Trump Appears to Gloat Over Chicago Shooting

Hours after news broke that NBA star Dwyane Wade's cousin was shot dead walking a baby stroller in Chicago, Donald Trump tried to capitalize on the tragedy by making it all about him. "Dwayne Wade's cousin was just shot and killed walking her baby in Chicago. Just what I have been saying. African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!" Trump tweeted Saturday, apparently trying to win over African American voters in his ongoing bid to show the world he's not racist. Wade's cousin, Nykea Aldridge, was killed on the South Side of Chicago on Friday while pushing a baby stroller on her way to register her kids for school. Wade tweeted about the crime to remind his followers about the ongoing problem of gun violence in Chicago, while Trump appeared to be celebrating the moment in the hopes it would give him more supporters. Trump's comments, which appeared to be an attempt to remind voters that he is the "law and order candidate," sparked outrage among Twitter users, with many denouncing the Republican nominee for hijacking the tragic news to push his own agenda.

Donald Trump surrogate loses mind, curses out reporter, gets humiliated for it

Donald Trump surrogate loses mind, curses out reporter, gets humiliated for it

As the Donald Trump campaign continues to fall out of contention and its candidate continues to act even more erratically, his surrogates have fallen under increasing pressure to explain away his words and behavior. Further, when he essentially sold out his campaign to extremist political site Breitbart this week, it seemed to send a signal that he was giving up trying to win. That’s left his surrogates high and dry, perhaps explaining why one of them completely lost his mind and cursed out a reporter.
This is not the first time we’ve seen distressing behavior from Donald Trump surrogate and losing Florida congressional candidate Dan Bognino while on the media circuit. His appearance on CNN two weeks ago was so embarrassing that host Don Lemon finally blurted out at him “You should be ashamed of yourself.” But now Bongino’s demeanor while speaking to the media has deteriorated. Rapidly.
After an article in the Naples News pointed out that Dan Bongino was being severely out-fundraised in his own congressional race and highlighted the fact that most of Bongino’s money was mysteriously coming from outside his district. This set him off to the point that for some reason he got on the phone with a reporter from a different publication, Marc Caputo of Politico, and ended up cursing him out with one profane insult after another.
The Politico reporter had warned Dan Bongino in advance that the call was being recorded, making it fair game when the news outlet turned around and posted a recording of Bongino’s profane meltdown to YouTube for all to hear. You can listen to it by clicking here:

Chicago Police Department issues statement calling Donald Trump a liar

Chicago Police Department issues statement calling Donald Trump a liar

chicago-police
Even as fact checkers have confirmed that Donald Trump has been lying most of the time during the course of his political campaign, his torrent of lies seems to be growing more bizarre by the day. This time his latest lie involves the Chicago Police Department, and it was so egregious that the department itself has now issued a statement confirming that Trump is lying. So much for winning over the “law and order” vote.
Donald Trump went on Fox News this week and claimed that he met with a “top” member of the Chicago Police Department, which any reasonable person would assume to mean one of the leaders or highest ranking personnel. But that claim began to fall apart when he tried to speak about the details. “I’m sure he’s got a strategy” for reducing the crime level, he ad libbed, before inexplicably adding “I didn’t ask him his strategy.”
This led the Chicago Police Department itself to cry foul, issuing a statement yesterday confirming that “No one in the senior command at CPD has ever met with Donald Trump or a member of his campaign.” Oops.
Now the Trump campaign is trying to mitigate the damage of his latest bizarre by claiming, apparently with a straight face, that when Trump said he was meeting with one of the “top” people in the Chicago Police Department, he merely meant that he was meeting with a random low level officer who was probably really good at his job.
It’s almost as if the Trump campaign is no longer even trying to bother making a serious effort at covering for Donald Trump’s increasingly absurd lies. If so, then it’s no wonder. With fact checkers confirming that Trump is lying most of the time, they can probably no longer keep up with her.

Donald Trump’s doctor violates HIPAA by discussing Hillary Clinton’s medical records, faces prison time

Donald Trump’s doctor violates HIPAA by discussing Hillary Clinton’s medical records, faces prison time

hillary-clinton-donald-trump
For his own sake, Dr. Harold Bornstein had better hope he’s lying. He went on the Rachel Maddow show on MSNBC tonight in order to answer questions about the absurd letter he wrote vouching for Donald Trump’s health eight months ago, which has come back into focus now that Trump has begun making up phony claims about Hillary Clinton’s health. But then Bornstein did something which, if he was telling the truth, was a felony on his part which comes complete with a prison sentence.
While on the Maddow show on Friday night, Dr. Bornstein claimed that he’s seen Hillary Clinton’s health records and that they’re not good. But he’s not Clinton’s doctor, so the only way he could have seen her records is if he convinced her doctor to share them, or if he obtained them by some kind of underhanded means. But regardless of how he may have accessed Clinton’s records, if he really did see them, he violated federal the most severe clause within federal HIPAA laws by publicly discussing what’s in those records.
The American Medical Association quotes the Department of Justice as assigning criminal penalties to medical professionals who violate HIPAA. Those who “knowingly obtain or disclose individually identifiable health information in violation of the Administrative Simplification Regulations face a fine of up to $50,000, as well as imprisonment up to one year. Offenses committed under false pretenses allow penalties to be increased to a $100,000 fine, with up to five years in prison. Finally, offenses committed with the intent to sell, transfer, or use individually identifiable health information for commercial advantage, personal gain or malicious harm permit fines of $250,000, and imprisonment for up to ten years.”
If Dr. Bornstein’s public disclosure of Hillary Clinton’s medical records is defined as “malicious harm” under the law, and it appears to based on his obvious desire to harm her chances of winning the election, he’s looking at up to a decade long prison sentence. And even if he got his hands on her medical records via less than “malicious” but still illegitimate means, he’s looking at a potential prison sentence one way or the other.
Of course the more likely explanation is that, as has so typically been the case with Donald Trump and his allies during the course of his campaign, Dr. Harold Bornstein is simply making up a false claim about having seen Hillary Clinton’s medical records. We’re still researching what if any legal penalties there are on the books for licensed medical doctors who publicly and falsely claim to have seen the medical records of someone who is not a patient in order to cause malicious harm. Thank you to Daily News Bin reader Peggy Mitchell for the tip.

The Alt-Right implodes as Sarah Palin attacks Donald Trump

The Alt-Right implodes as Sarah Palin attacks Donald Trump

donald-trump-sarah-palin
When it came to finding support from the extremist lunatic conservative base known as the “Alt-Right” movement, Donald Trump never had to look any further than Sarah Palin for support. She endorsed him early in the primary season. He toured with him in Iowa. She attacked Paul Ryan by proxy when the Speaker dared to meekly stand up to Trump’s extremism. But in a sign that the Alt-Right loons are inevitably imploding, Palin is now publicly attacking Trump.
Even as Donald Trump has finally begun to realize that he can’t win the election as long as he clings to his extremist and racist conservative policies such as building a money-wasting wall on the border, or promising to deport eleven million people in a manner which would be tantamount to genocide, he’s gingerly explored methods of trying to back of some his most absurd premises. But as he’s begun to hint that he might not build his pointless symbolic wall after all, Sarah Palin is tearing him a new one for it.
Palin is now slamming Trump for being “wishy-washy” and a “massive disappointment” as he desperately scrambles to paint himself as being less insane in the eyes of normal voters. Her criticism encapsulates the corner which Trump is now backed into. If he sticks to the extremist positions that got him through the primary, he’ll lose the general election badly. But if he backs off those positions, not only is it unlikely he’ll change the minds of moderate voters who have decided he’s a nutcase, he risks losing his existing support base in the process.
Worse, because Donald Trump has spent a year courting the votes of mentally unstable conservative extremists while stoking their insanity even further for his own gain, they now appear to be turning on him in disturbing ways. One Trump supporter called in to the Glenn Beck show this week and threatened violence against Trump if he doesn’t build his promised wall. So as much as Sarah Palin is a national punchline, her attacks on Trump are indicative of a larger problem he’s facing with this Alt-Right base.

Donald Trump cancels Arizona rally, withdraws from campaign trail almost entirely, campaign in chaos

Donald Trump cancels Arizona rally, withdraws from campaign trail almost entirely, campaign in chaos

donald-trump
After a controversial week which saw him abruptly canceling one public appearance after another, raising questions as to whether he’s giving up as his campaign enters total freefall, has now canceled yet another event. This time Trump is blowing off his scheduled rally in Arizona, a traditionally red-leaning state where he’s in danger of losing. This latest cancelation means that not only is Trump retreating from the public campaign trail almost entirely, he’s doing so in such a confusion fashion that his even his own campaign appears to be confounded as to what’s going on.
The Donald Trump campaign informed the media this afternoon that his planned event on Wednesday in Phoenix had been scuttled entirely. But this took place at the same time Trump himself was tweeting that he will indeed be in Phoenix on Wednesday, and that he’s moving his event to a larger venue within the city. However this appears to be mere bravado or delusion on his part, as the official schedule on his website confirms that there is no longer any event in Arizona on Wednesday. In fact his schedule reveals that he has basically no events left at all.
Now that Trump has canceled his upcoming public events in Arizona, Colorado, Oregon, and Nevada, his public schedule is so barren that he literally has nothing left on it aside from one rally in Everett, Washington this Tuesday. Even that event makes no strategic sense, as Washington is a blue state where Trump has no chance of winning any electoral votes, meaning he’s wasting his time and resources by visiting there.
What makes the Washington rally stand out is that it’s the one left on his schedule. In contrast, his running mate Mike Pence has half a dozen upcoming public rallies listed on the same schedule. Notably, three of Pence’s upcoming events are in Georgia, a red state where a Republican should be winning easily, but the polls are tied – revealing just how thoroughly the Trump campaign is having to play defense.
But the larger question is why Donald Trump is now vanishing from the public campaign trail almost entirely. Is he sick? Is he merely sick of losing? Perhaps he’s lost interest in holding public rallies in swing states, where his crowd size has been dwindling. Theo only places he can reliably still draw a crowd are in the reddest of states.
As Donald Trump continues to retreat from the public eye without explanation in chaotic fashion, scheduling events and then canceling them at the last minute and then in some instances claiming he didn’t actually cancel them, it begs the question of whether he’s given up or lost interest entirely. Maybe there really is something secretly wrong with him. Or maybe he’s simply realized he’s going to lose, and he’s using the remainder of the election to set up his upcoming media venture.

Donald Trump’s top black strategist in Florida thrown out of Trump rally for being black

Donald Trump’s top black strategist in Florida thrown out of Trump rally for being black

jackson-trum
Even as Donald Trump suddenly reverse course with his campaign and begins telling rooms full of white people why he’d make a great President for black people, national polls say that he’s polling within the margin of error of zero percent with African-American voters. The Trump campaign does have minority outreach efforts, but those in charge of it say the campaign is blowing them off. Worse, Trump’s own top black strategist in Florida was thrown out of a Trump rally, essentially for being black.
Sean P. Jackson is the head of the Black Republican Caucus of Florida, and he’s also serving as a Donald Trump surrogate in the state. He claims that the head of the Trump campaign in Florida, Karen Giorno, has repeatedly blown off his efforts at getting the campaign to take African-American voters seriously. In fact she apparently couldn’t even remember what he looked like, despite his prominence within the campaign and the numerous conversations they’d had.
When the Secret Service asked Jackson what he was doing backstage at a Donald Trump rally, he identified himself, but none of Trump’s people backstage could vouch for him because none of them recognized him. He claims he asked Giorno to vouch for him, but she said she didn’t recognize him either, so he was escorted out under the assumption he didn’t belong.
In other words, Donald Trump’s own top campaign people in Florida were unable to distinguish the head of the Black Republican Caucus from any other random black guy when they saw him, so by default he was thrown out for being black. In Jackson’s own words, the Republican Party “has done a piss-poor job of courting the black vote over fifty years.” Trump’s sudden token mention of black voters won’t change that. Someone may have to break it to Sean P. Jackson that he’s wasting his time working for a party that can’t even figure out what he looks like, let alone bother to care about the issues he’s advocating for.

Donald Trump’s $100,000 “donation” to Louisiana flood victims went to a local anti-gay hate group [A MUST-READ for everyone interested in CORRUPTION]

Donald Trump’s $100,000 “donation” to Louisiana flood victims went to a local anti-gay hate group

play-doh-trum
It turns out Donald Trump’s attempt at using the Louisiana flooding as a campaign photo op is getting worse for him by the minute. The original optics were bad enough when he showed up and spent less than a minute unloading some Play-Doh from a truck before leaving. Then local authorities disputed his claim that the Play-Doh truck was even donated by him. And after he claimed that he had made a $100,000 donation but reporters couldn’t track it down, he’s now admitting the donation went to a local anti-gay hate group.
Trump’s six figure “donation” actually went to a group called the Greenwell Springs Baptist Church, which is a local front for ‘interim pastor” Tony Perkins, the head of the Family Research Council – a notorious anti LGBT entity disguised as a family values group and now disguised as a church. Perkins lost his home in the flood, a story which garnered significant headlines for its irony after so many anti-gay “pastors” had previously claimed that Hurricane Katrina had hit Louisiana as part of God’s wrath against gay people.
Now it appears Donald Trump may simply have been giving the $100,000 to the Tony Perkins-fronted group so that he could rebuild his own home. That’s all well and good, except that Perkins is a wealthy man in addition to being a hateful bigot, and could easily have his house rebuilt himself. In fact his Council is regularly on the receiving end of massive contributions from corrupt conservative billionaires.
So to recap: not only did Donald Trump hand out Play-Doh to working class people in desperate need of food and water and money to rebuild their own modest homes, it turns out he didn’t even donate the Play-Doh he was handing out, and then he gave a six figure donation to a wealthy local hate monger. It’s increasingly beginning to look like Trump would have fared better if he’d taken the Louisiana Governor’s advice and just stayed away.

Saudi Arabia Cries Foul Play in Yemen

Saudi Arabia Cries Foul Play in Yemen

Sanaa_rally1
By Catherine Shakdam | New Eastern Outlook | August 27, 2015
As the Yemen International Conference in the Support of Yemen was in full swing in the British capital, London, Yemenis came in their hundreds of thousands to pledge their support to the Resistance movement this August 20, 2016 – yet another popular show of force, yet another grand display of sovereign political will in the face of foreign diktat.
To the sounds of explosions, and flying Saudi war planes it is Yemen which came to defy its invaders; a proud nation under unprecedented duress, a land united under the banner of its resistance.
“We won’t bow down to the House of Saud” chanted the crowd. “We will never bow down to the criminal House of Saud,” millions repeated in unison.
If Yemen remains in the throes of a brutal war of attrition for its dared ambition to live free under its skies, its people are quite determined to weather whatever storm Saudi Arabia will throw, so that their right to self-govern and resist oppression could be affirmed – never to be questioned again.
However one chooses to look at Yemen’s war, it would be foolish to deny still that those brave souls corporate media still label as “rebels” are in fact the carrier of a nation’s will; the very expression of a people’s inherent right to carve its own political future, regardless of what anyone else might think.
Let me be brutally honest here – Yemen neither needs foreign approval, nor does it require foreign vetting. Yemenis want what they want because they can! It is really that simple.
Yemen needs no liberating from the Houthis, for the Houthis are Yemen. Yemen is not being overrun by Shiites, Yemen is Zaidi country. There is no Iranian agenda at play either, only a desire to disappear the suffocating influence of the House of Saud.
Standing in opposition of the most violent, radical and reactionary theocracy ever to grace the pages of our history does not make Yemen an “Iranian agent”, it makes Yemen an expectant independent nation.
Media coverage of Yemen so far has been criminal at best, misleading always.
The public has been conned into a narrative which is devoid of all humanity, and democratic courtesy. The simple fact that media feel entitled to slap derogatory adjectives before the Houthis as to direct their readers’ self-righteous sense of political morality is despicable.
I read the terms Iran-backed Shia Houthis rebels too many times not take offense. How dare you define a people whom you know nothing about? How dare you speak over and at an entire nation because their will does align with yours?
Let’s play the adjective game shall we?
When have you ever read the following statement: Wahhabi-backed-Western-sold-out- twice-resigned-once-runaway-child-killer-Sunni President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi? Likely never … Why? Because Saudi Arabia and its allies are still hiding behind this pale figure of a man to legitimize their odious genocidal military intervention against Yemen.
Let me tell you of this so-called legitimate political figure the West has canonised as Yemen’s forever president.
Hadi is a fraud and a traitor. Not only did he allow for the killing of his countrymen, he actually actively pursued their annihilation in the name of a chair he never truly was appointed to. Hadi was elected in a one-man election in 2012 for the duration of a 2-year’s mandate – not exactly what you call democratic.
Hadi was never the choice of the people, he was Riyadh’s choice through the GCC-brokered transition of power agreement (2011).
How can anyone speak of democracy and refuse Yemenis their own?
How can anyone still read corporate media and not deplore the stench of their abominable hypocrisy and bias?
Do not tell Yemen what it wants, but hear what it is telling you.
Hear what an entire nation is screaming from the top of its glorious lungs, and witness the rise of a Resistance which breadth will maybe crumble al-Saud tyranny.
“We won’t bow down to the House of Saud … We will never bow down to the criminal House of Saud!”
Can you hear them now? Can you not respect that a nation simply cannot bring itself to live the abomination which is Wahhabism? Can you not recognise that Yemen is the last line of defense for all free folks in Arabia?
Who will speak for democracy and political self-determination when radicalism will have nations at the mercy of their guns? Can you not see that what you refuse Yemen – free will, is exactly what you demand for yourself?
Do not tell me of the will of a people when under bombs millions have rallied before their appointed leaders.
Yemen is free today by the strength of its Resistance movement.
Yemen is dignified today for one man rose from the oppression of religious repression to reclaim pluralism his own coat of arms. Sheikh Abdel-Malek al-Houthi, one of the sons of Hamdan, Yemen’s very own legacy offered Yemen its Freedom to keep none for himself.
Sheikh al-Houthi liberated Yemen from al-Saud never to demand a seat at power’s table.
Do not speak of what you don’t know Mr corporate media. Do not define with your adjectives the nature of a land for which you have no respect for.
Yemen might be poor and battered but it is a grand and noble land.
Of course Saudi Arabia would want you to believe that Yemen’s political ambitions are illegitimate, unlawful and nefarious.
Have you ever bothered asking why? Have you even given the infamous “Houthis” the time of day before dismissing them under misapprehension?
I think not. What the public did is assume. What the public did is read those adjectives media associated ad nauseam to Yemen resistance movement, and automatically accept those labels as truths. Adjectives those days have become dangerous weapons of mass-destruction.
Adjectives have cost Yemen its freedom!
Yemenis this August 20, 2016 came to publicly offer their support to the new highest political council – and still Riyadh has cried foul play.
Millions took to the streets knowing full well that Saudi Arabia warplanes were up above to offer their voice and their arms to the Resistance, and still Western capitals have called for Hadi’s “restoration.”
What will it take for you to wake up?
Yemen has bled, burnt, exploded, pleaded, negotiated, mourned, cried and starved while you turned your nose up in disgust arguing what future a people should have instead of the one they want for themselves.
If you like the idea of a life spent in the shadow of Wahhabism why not book a ticket to Saudi Arabia and experience first-hand the type of democracy al-Saud have in mind for Yemen, you might find new respect then for the Houthis of Yemen.
One more thing before I go: no one said you had to love the Houthis, only that you respect that Yemenis do.

Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network urges all to participate in this important protest!
Prosecute war criminal Netanyahu, boycott Israeli Apartheid!
On Tuesday 6th of September Benjamin Netanyahu will be visiting the House of Representatives in The Hague. This visit will mark the Dutch Parliament with the blood on the Israeli Prime Minister's hands. Netanyahu was the Prime Minister of Israel when more than 2300 Palestinians, among which 500 children, were killed during the mass murder “Operation Protective Edge” in Gaza 2014. We believe that the only place in the Hague in which Netanyahu belongs is the International Criminal Court. We have not forgotten about the Palestinian martyrs. We demand prosecution of war criminal Netanyahu.
Although we push the Dutch government to immediately prosecute Netanyahu, we are not naive. The Netherlands is an important contributor to the Israeli Apartheid regime. Prime Minister Mark Rutte would be happy to shake Netanyahu’s bloody hands. It is our job however, as citizens of the Netherlands to prevent the Israeli Prime Minister from using his visit to promote the illegal Israeli occupation. It is of great importance to show through mass demonstration that we have not forgotten about Netanyahu’s war crimes. Therefore we will demonstrate to show our mass support for the Palestinian liberation.
The only way in which Palestinians can liberate themselves is by taking action. The most crucial (non-violent) weapon that we possess in the Netherlands is the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. The BDS movement played a prominent role in the fall of South African Apartheid and could have the same effect on the Israeli Apartheid. In order to contribute to the development of the BDS movement it is of great importance to join together on the streets in large numbers. We demonstrate for the prosecution of Netanyahu, for the boycott of Israel and for the liberation of Palestine. Take action and join us on Tuesday 6th September!
