‘Responsible Gun Owner’ Shoots, Kills Stepdaughter After Mistaking Her For Burglar
by John Prager
A
14-year-old girl was Second Amendmented to death after her stepfather
caught her sneaking into the family home early Monday morning. Neighbors
said they heard three shots were fired at around 6 am.
According to police, the teenager's stepfather -- not taking the time to ascertain if she was actually a threat -- shot her in the chest, mistaking her for a burglar.
The victim was rushed to the hospital, and passed away shortly after arriving.
Under
Colorado's "Make My Day" law, the stepfather will likely walk free,
despite his irresponsibility. The law gives homeowners the right to
shoot and kill an intruder if they feel that the person will use
physical threat against them (though one might ask how, not having
identified the intruder, he could reasonably ascertain a threat level).
No
arrests have been made, and the police have stated that the shooting
was accidental -- so it is unlikely that justice will be served or
anyone will be held responsible for yet another gun tragedy in America.
