Obama Bans Solitary for Juveniles

Using his power of executive action, President Barack Obama on Monday banned solitary confinement for juvenile offenders in the federal prison system. The new rules also state that guards cannot use solitary as a punishment for inmates’ “low-level infractions.” Furthermore, the executive actions will expand the treatment of mentally ill inmates and increase the amount of time inmates in solitary spend outside their cells.
