Michigan GOP Official Says We Should ‘Herd All the Indians’ to Detroit, Put a Fence Up and Toss in Corn (Video)

Michigan Republican county official has explained the next step in the
GOP's minority outreach -- round-up all the "Indians," build a fence
(what is it with these people and building fences and walls?), and throw
in corn and blankets!
In an interview with Paige Williams of The New Yorker,
Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson shared his distaste for
the city of Detroit. “Any time I talk about Detroit, it will not be
positive" he said, "The truth hurts, you know? Tough shit.”
Patterson recalled warning his children against the commonly right-wing-maligned city:

type="shadow"]“I used to say to my kids, ‘First of all, there’s no
reason for you to go to Detroit. We’ve got restaurants out here.’ They
don’t even have movie theaters in Detroit—not one.” He went on, “I can’t
imagine finding something in Detroit that we don’t have in spades here.
Except for live sports. We don’t have baseball, football. For that,
fine—get in and get out. But park right next to the venue—spend the
extra twenty or thirty bucks. And, before you go to Detroit, you get
your gas out here. You do not, do not, under any circumstances, stop in Detroit at a gas station! That’s just a call for a carjacking.”[/box]
It's
OK, though! Patterson has a fix -- and if you're expecting it to
include rounding up a group of people who share similar genetics, you
won't be disappointed!
[box type="shadow"]“I made a prediction a long time ago, and it’s come to pass. I said, ‘What we’re gonna do is turn Detroit into an Indian reservation, where we herd all the Indians into the city, build a fence around it, and then throw in the blankets and the corn.’”[/box]

How,
exactly, this would in any way help the city of Detroit is anyone's
guess, but Patterson has drawn angry criticism from across the country.
Patterson, of course, claims that he is being set up to appear in a
negative light, that the author of the piece has an "agenda." In a
statement, his office said,

interviewed county executive Patterson. She cast him in a false light in
order to fit her preconceived and outdated notions about the region.
Mr. Patterson’s record on advancing regional issues in a transparent and
responsible manner is unparalleled. His initiatives — including
Automation Alley, the regional law enforcement management system CLEMIS
and his leadership on the Cobo Authority — have had a highly positive
and nationally recognized impact on the region.”[/box]
Yes. How dare she record the actual words that he spoke on paper!
