U.S. officials have concluded that Russia is deliberately targeting
Syrian rebel groups backed by the Central Intelligence Agency in a wave
of recent airstrikes, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
The Pentagon has since neglected to share any intelligence with Moscow
on areas where U.S. allies are located to prevent Russian jets from
using that information to target them more directly. Syrian state
television reported Tuesday
that Russia’s air force allegedly struck ISIS targets in Syria’s
ancient city of Palmyra and the northern province of Aleppo. The strikes
reportedly destroyed 20 vehicles and three weapons depots in Palmyra
and hit the towns of Al-Bab and Deir Hafer, according to Al-Manar
television, which is run by the Lebanese Hezbollah group allied to
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
