The
Israeli government has recently authorized a construction plan for 20
new housing units in the Beit El settlement on land partially owned by
Palestinians. One of the main beneficiaries of this plan, according to
an exclusive report on Channel 2 News, will be the newly-appointed US
ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, who is also the volunteer head of
American Friends of Beit El Institutions, a group that raises funds for
the settlement. In 2015, the group donated 2.47 million shekels to the Sukkat Ovadia organization, which runs the Beit El yeshiva compound. There are even buildings named after Friedman in the settlement.
"The government is rewarding a criminal organization," said the anti-settlement group Peace Now. "Israelis will pay the price of Netanyahu's flattery of the new ambassador in the form of a binational state."
