10,000 Palestinians Storm Checkpoint
Thousands of protesting Palestinians marching from Ramallah to East Jerusalem clashed with Israeli forces on Thursday
night, as violence spread to the previously peaceful capital.
Demonstrators threw rocks, firebombs, and fireworks at Israeli security
and border police, who in turn used riot-control methods and live
ammunition. At least one protester was killed, while three others were
left in critical condition, and 200 were injured. Twenty-seven Israeli
officers were injured. Palestinians were marching against the two-week
campaign in Gaza. Israel is deploying 3,000 to 4,000 police in
Jerusalem, as riots are expected to break out there Friday.
