Gay kiss kicks offCommonwealth Games

Out gay actor and singer John Barrowman has opened Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games with a kiss to a male dancer.
Shown below, their smooch was accompanied by a shout of “here’s to equality in Scotland,” with other dancers pulling party poppers.
Scotland’s lawmakers said “aye!” to marriage equality back in February this year. Same-sex marriages are expected to start there when the new law comes into effect next year.
Sadly thought, homosexuality is an imprisonable offence in 42 of the countries competing at this year’s Commonwealth Games.
With 6,500 athletes representing 71 nations and territories of the Commonwealth in attendance, the stage is set for a spectacular Games, with Australia aiming to top the medal tally and bring home a record gold medal haul.
Supporting LGBTI athletes during the Games, Glasgow has opened a special Pride House there, and also proudly flies a rainbow flag from its civic buildings.
Local coverage of the Games began this morning on Channel Ten, with our newly-out swimming great Ian Thorpe joining them as a key member of the Aussie presenting team.
