Caned in front of a baying crowd: Eight convicted gamblers are subjected to brutal Sharia punishment in Indonesian mosque
A thousand spectators watched as the men were whipped five
times with a bamboo-like cane in Aceh province, on the Indonesian island
of Sumatra. Some of the crowd could be seen taking photos while the
masked, cloaked man beat the eight convicted gamblers over the back. A
ninth man will face his cruel punishment when he has recovered from an
illness. Gambling is a breach of the version of Sharia law used in the
province.
