Conservation groups rallied in Portland and Boise, Idaho, on Tuesday,
demanding that the leader of an armed group occupying an Oregon
wildlife refuge needs to leave the federal property. The Portland
protest, organized by Oregon Wild, Portland Audubon, and the Center for
Biological Diversity, called on group leader Ammon Bundy to leave the
federal building at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Burns so
that others could continue to enjoy the public lands. In Boise, a
similar rally took place outside the Idaho Capitol with more than 100
people. Bundy and his group took over the refuge on Jan. 2, demanding
that the federal government give up control of public land. Also on Tuesday,
Bundy attended a community meeting, where he was met with jeering after
Harney County Judge Steve Grasty told him it was “time for you to go
home.”
