The family of a California teenager who was killed by police three months ago has filed a federal lawsuit alleging that the circumstances of the young man’s death were covered up by police. According to the lawsuit, the incident was recorded on security cameras and a camera phone, but police seized and destroyed the footage. Sammy Villarreal, who was 18 years old at the time of his death, was killed in a car chase in a parking lot. Villarreal tried to escape from police by accelerating backward, crashing into a police vehicle. Police then opened fire.
