Our
human habits have changed and so must the way we think about crosswalks
at intersections! Countless pedestrian accidents occur in large part to
the pedestrian’s distraction by smartphone use. Silly but true – we’re
so consumed with our phones we’re sacrificing our safety!The answer to protecting ourselves lies in innovative design according to Büro North. They’ve created a Smart Tactile Paving system that utilizes the existing stoplight infrastructure to provide a visual indications of the traffic status. Unlike crosswalk signals placed higher than the user, these STP units can be placed over the sidewalk so those looking down at their phone can be made aware of when it’s safe to cross.
