Brazil court sentences police to life for prison massacre
[JURIST] A Brazilian court on Saturday sentenced 25 police officers to
life in prison for their role in the 1992 Carandiru prison massacre.

US jury recommends life sentences for Somali pirates
[JURIST] A jury for the US District Court for the Eastern District of
Virginia [official website] recommended Friday that three Somali pirates
convicted [JURIST report] of murdering four Americans receive life in

UN rights chief calls for independent probe of Syria war crimes
[JURIST] UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay [official

Obama administration overturns ban on sale of some iPads, iPhones
