Nude portraits hung in a school in Berlin has caused a debate
putting artistic expression and religious sensitivities at odds.
World Bulletin / News Desk
An adult education centre in Berlin hung a collection of nude portraits after people complained when they realized the paintings were left out of an exhibition on Friday, leading them to be re-exhibited on Wednesday.
More than 300 comments were received by a local politician after the paintings were excluded from the exhibition, including accusations that the nation was laying down for Islam.
However, some were glad to see them taken down on Friday, in respect to religious sensitivities. Gotthard Haenisch, the school head teacher, removed the paintings "with consideration" for Muslim students. However, no complaints were received from Muslim students or parents on the matter.
