In a sermon to 50,000 eager followers, a self-declared 'prophet' in Zimbabwe has branded gay people to be tools of the devil.
Emmanuel Makandiwa pronounced gays to be 'mentally sick' and said Satan has a strategy to make it hard for the public to realise LGBTI people are evil.
The leader of the United Family International Church (UFIC) said: ‘What amazes me is that some of these people are billionaires. Some of these people with reprobate minds are in political positions.
'Now they are passing laws to support homosexuality.’
The ‘prophet’ claims people in Zimbabwe with money and political power are using it to hide their homosexuality.
‘How can someone get lots of money and yet he has a reprobate mind?' Makandiwa told his congregation, according to local paper The Sunday Mail.
'Most people don’t believe such homosexuals are out of their minds because they have more money than you.
'Money is there to make them appear like they are normal, they are not normal.'
He said how the devil was using these people as a shield to make the public unaware that gay people are sick, and their minds are rejects of God.
‘Their minds are no longer according to the design of God. What is causing men to marry other men is not because they have some natural desires towards other men in their blood. It is because of the condition of their minds. Their minds are rejects.’
But a gay rights organization has hit out at the church leader.
The Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe (GALZ) said: ‘As a man of the church, one would expect Prophet Makandiwa to do his gospel duty by standing alongside the marginalized and the social outcast.’
They have accused him of ‘manipulating the authority of the church to fight political battles’ and says the leader should ‘pray for a day when the question of one’s sexuality will become irrelevant.’
Gay sex and public affection are currently illegal in Zimbabwe.
The country's President Robert Mugabe has called for gays and lesbians to have their heads chopped off in the past and has recently vowed to crackdown even further on the LGBTI community.
