GOP Wants Fewer Primary Debates in Attempt to Hide Insane Candidates

GOP Wants Fewer Primary Debates in Attempt to Hide Insane Candidates from the Public!

by Josh Kilburn
The Republicans are now officially in damage control mode.
Reince Priebus, the chairman of the national Republican Party, announced in a speech that he made to the California Republican Party on Friday that the primary system was to undergo restructuring. Priebus told the crowd that the GOP primary system was an utter disaster, and that among the changes proposed to the system would be fewer primary debates and the selection of their own in-house moderators.
Currently, the Republican primary system has 27 debates; Priebus' plan would reduce that number from 27 to 1o, and the "in-house" moderator system means the GOP would appoint moderators, not news networks or committees. The plan would also move the national convention to an earlier date in the year, to June.
The goal here is transparent: in business terminology, this is a "hostile takeover." Priebus' plan will do two things: limit the exposure of the candidates to the media and control how those candidates are exposed. The plan will also shoo the fools off the national stage faster, with an earlier convention to determine who the GOP will be running for president. The administration is tired of the Mad Hatters, March Hares, and eternal TEA time for the extremist wing of their party and they're trying to reign things in after utter mockery that was their last primary and eventually their entire campaign in 2012.
Time will tell whether or not this has the intended effect. The GOP has been courting this deranged element of the right-wing now for more than several decades. It was only a matter of time before it spun out of control and consumed them whole. We'll find out in 2016 whether this administration take over will produce the intended results - or if it'll just make it that much easier for the unzipped minds of the GOP to actually win a primary.
For a few examples of completely insane things Republicans have said (what the GOP leadership likely wants to shield the American public from), watch this:
