McDonald’s Manager Tells Diabetic Employee To ‘Put A Bullet’ In Her Head After ‘Diabetic Episode’
by John Prager
On Saturday workers at a Chicago McDonald's rallied around Carmen Navarette,
a 9 year veteran of McDonald's who says a member of management told her
to 'put a bullet' in her head when she asked if she could go home
following a 'diabetic episode.'
Fast
food workers, a number of city Aldermen, members of the Workers
Organizing Committee of Chicago, fellow fast food workers, and other
members of the community showed up to the Rock N' Roll McDonald's at
around 2 p.m.
Supporters
of the employee came bearing stickers that read "respect" and "no more
verbal abuse" along with a message in giant poster form for the manager:
After
Navarette asked her manager if she could go home and recover following a
"severe diabetic episode" she was told to "put a bullet" in her head,
according to a Workers Organizing Committee of Chicago release.
Navarette
shared her story at a Organizing Committee of Chicago Women Caucus
meeting last weekend, and the group decided to step up to assist. "I'm
here on International Women's Day to support my fellow workers, women,
and stand with my union,”said fellow Rock N' Roll McDonald's employee
Adriana Sanchez. “We are the heart and soul of McDonald's and it's
unacceptable for any worker to be yelled at and insulted."
