Mona Lisa was a feminist who believed women should be allowed to become priests, says historian who claims he’s solved the da Vinci masterpiece mystery

An amateur art historian has claimed that the subject of Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa was a feminist. U.S. academic William Varvel has argued that the artist¿s muse was a 16th-century activist who favoured a greater role for women in the Catholic Church Amateur art historian, William Varvel, from Texas, has claimed that Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa was in fact a feminist. Mr Varvel has never been to see the painting at the Louvre.
