In yet another story about the questionable conduct of police officers, North Carolina deputies are in hot water after sharing a video game where the object of play is to kill pregnant immigrants and "wetbacks."
The Associated Press is reporting that even some deputies in leadership roles were involved in the scandal. U.S. Department of Justice has released documents revealing that the video game was disseminated by email throughout the department in Alamance County.
“Captain Mario Wiley emailed several other ACSO employees a link to a game premised on shooting stereotypical Mexican figures, including pregnant women and children, as they attempt to cross the U.S. border,” the document says. “Blood splatters on the screen as the figures are shot, and the final screen of the game shows how many ‘wetbacks’ one has killed.”
The emails sharing the video game were also laden with racist jokes, according to the Justice Department.
According the documents, “Sergeant Darryl Myers and Lieutenant Wesley Anderson each forwarded an email joking that when Davey Crockett saw ‘hordes of Mexicans’ approaching the Alamo, he asked ‘are we having landscaping done today?’”
“Makes you feel better anyway, I did my part today, I kept several from coming over!!!” one deputy allegedly wrote.
In a statement, the Justice Department slammed the Alamance County said that the incident shows “a total lack of discipline for expressing anti-Latino sentiment.”
