How we are still living in ancient tribes in 2015: Study shows parts of Britain still has same genetic make-up as 1,400 years ago
Scientists at Oxford University have found that modern
Britain can be divided into 17 distinct genetic 'clans' with the Welsh
having the most DNA from the original settlers of the British Isles.
Despite their reputation for raping, the Vikings left little trace of
their DNA, as did the ancient Romans. However, a quarter of English DNA
was found to be German and 45 per cent was French in origin. The image
above shows the geographical locations where the 17 different genetic
groups can now be found in modern Britain.
