Man holding towel when shot by LAPD was unarmed

Los Angeles police said today that a man who had raised an arm wrapped in a towel and was shot Friday evening turned out not to have a gun.The man flagged down officers about 6:35 p.m. at Los Feliz Boulevard and Tica Drive south of Griffith Park, police said. He extended an arm wrapped in a towel and was ordered to "drop the gun," said LAPD Lt. John Jenal, and was shot. He was hospitalized in critical condition.
