Is This The Face Of Terrorism? Syrian Refugee Cradles Kitten Stowaway On Successful Journey To Greece
September 15, 2015 by Amanda Froelich
This refugee refused to make the perilous journey from war-torn Syria to the Mediterranean without his kitten.
Tycoon Naguib Sawaris is doing his part, and amazingly purchasing at least one island to house hundreds of thousands of refugees. Others with less affluence are offering up their homes and choosing to “be the change” by giving what they have to help those in need.
Still, hatred continues to be flung by those who have yet to learn that underneath all exterior, we are one.
Thankfully, documented efforts of refugees escaping the horror in their homeland have helped bring to light this truth. One such reminder comes in the form of a photo featuring a refugee who refused to make the perilous journey from war-torn Syria to the Mediterranean without his kitten.
The touching picture captures the moment when the man and his kitten both landed on the island of Lesbos, Greece safely. According to Greek news outlet Prothema, the migrant arrived with nothing but a few possessions and, of course, the most precious cargo of all: his cat, Zaytouna, which is Arabic for Olive.
The news source shares that the man and his family are expected to take Zaytouna with them as they continue their way into Europe where they will hopefully find a new home soon.
To onlookers who scorn those fleeing for their lives from a comfortable couch or desk, please take a moment to consider the humanity that exists and deserves to be acknowledged in everyone – no matter their religion, sexual preference, income, or ethnicity.
The photo of Aylan’s body washing up on shore went viral to remind the world of the crisis presently going on in the Middle East and in Europe, but this is a positive reminder of the goodness which does still exist on this planet and deserves to be nurtured.
