Planned Parenthood SLAMS GOP: Your ‘Hateful Rhetoric’ Caused This Shooting

Planned Parenthood SLAMS GOP: Your ‘Hateful Rhetoric’ Caused This Shooting

The GOP is definitely, at least partially, responsible for the events at a Colorado Planned Parenthood location that left three people dead and nine others injured at the hands of right-wing domestic terrorist Robert Lewis Dear. They certainly won’t admit it — after all, to them, fetuses are more important than the right of a woman to control her own body, and, further, in their eyes, abortion = murder. Therefore, on some level, in their eyes, Robert Lewis Dear was justified in his actions. They may not say it in so many words so soon after a mass shooting, but their rhetoric surrounding this issue makes their feelings on the matter crystal clear. However, what the candidates themselves won’t say, their base certainly will.
Planned Parenthood, however, is more than happy to do the talking for them in the aftermath of this event. In a press release regarding the Colorado Springs terrorist attack on their location there, the women’s health organization openly linked the GOP’s scare tactics, hate, and lies to the attack itself. According to CBS News, Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Executive Vice President, Dawn Laguens, slammed the GOP with the following statement:
“It is offensive and outrageous that some politicians are now claiming this tragedy has nothing to do with the toxic environment they helped create. Even when the gunman was still inside of our health center, politicians who have long opposed safe and legal abortion were on television pushing their campaign to defund Planned Parenthood and invoking the discredited video smear campaign that reportedly fed this shooter’s rage.”

Ms. Laguens is absolutely right. Even the FBI has the numbers to prove that this hate speech against women who seek abortions, the doctors who provide them, and the clinics that provide access is directly responsible for the climate that causes attacks like the one Dear carried out on Friday. Ms. Laguens’ statement continues:
“Instead of looking for lessons to prevent this from happening in the future, they’re doubling down on their effort to block women from getting preventive health care at Planned Parenthood.”
Ironically enough, GOP Clown Car candidate Ben Carson proved her right on Sunday’s edition of Face The Nationwhere he once again refused to link his party’s hate speech to the attacks on the women’s health provider. Indeed, he insisted that while there is “no question the hateful rhetoric exacerbates the situation,” Carson still blamed “both sides” of the great abortion debate for what is happening in this country with people resorting to violence.
The thing is, though, the GOP refuses to acknowledge the elephant in the room. It’s “pro-life” terrorists who are shooting up clinics and murdering abortion doctors. Further, the ones who don’t go out and murder still justify what this shooter and other attackers have done.
When we see pro-choice people going in to the headquarters of the American Family Association, Focus on the Family, the Center for Medical Progress, anti-choice churches, or any other organization run by fetus fetishes with bombs and guns, then the idea that this is the fault of both sides will hold water. Until then, Dr. Carson, this is all on you and the rest of the GOP. If you guys could quit being ideologues for a second and look at a few actual facts, we could very well save some lives. After all, isn’t that what being “pro-life” is all about?
