Scott Weiland, the flamboyant lead singer of celebrated rock bands Stone
Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, was reportedly found dead on his
tour bus by his manager Thursday
evening in Minnesota. Weiland, 48, was scheduled to perform at the
Medina Entertainment Center with his group Scott Weiland & the
Wildabouts, but the show was canceled. His body was discovered at around
9 p.m.
The sad news was confirmed by Weiland’s wife, Jamie, and his longtime
pal, guitarist Dave Navarro.
Stone Temple Pilots were one of the seminal grunge rock bands of the
’90s, selling over 40 million records worldwide and taking home a Grammy
Award for their hit song “Plush.” Following the band’s split, Weiland
formed the supergroup Velvet Revolver with former Guns N’ Roses members
Slash and Duff McKagan. Their debut album, Contraband, sold 4 million
copies worldwide and earned the group a Grammy. In addition to achieving
rock stardom, Weiland suffered from a lifelong battle with drug
addiction. He’s survived by his wife, Jamie, and two children from a
previous marriage. |
