Stabbing victim's sister: 'There are no words to describe how we feel'

THE sister of a young teen who was fatally stabbed at a house party has said there are “no words” to describe the pain and grief the family are feeling.

Dovydas Jenkus (17) who was originally from Lithuania was killed after a row at a house party in Claremorris escalated into violence early yesterday morning.

His sister Agne penned a note to her brother accompanied by a photo of the pair in better times.

“There are no words to describe how we feel..You left us too soon. It's so hard to believe that we won’t be able to see you again. Hope you better there..You won’t be forgotten by anyone.. R.I.P,” she wrote.

Dovydas, who was a fifth year student at St Coleman’s College in Claremorris, had been at the party with friends when he became involved in a row with one of the group in the back garden of the house.

Gardai in Claremorris are continuing to question a teenage boy over the fatal stabbing of his friend.

The 16-year-old teen, who was well known to the victim, is understood to have gone to the kitchen of the house at Claremount Manor, a small estate on the northern outskirts of the town, returning with a knife.

When gardai arrived at the scene Dovydas had suffered a fatal knife injury. His alleged attacker is understood to have broke down in tears following the tragic incident. He was arrested and brought to Claremorris Garda Station where he is being questioned under  Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The scene of the incident was sealed off yesterday and a forensic examination was carried out. The State pathologist was alerted and the young boy’s body has been brought to Mayo General hospital for post mortem examination.

Dovydas, who is originally from Lithuania, had lived for a number of years in the Mayo town with his family.

His parents and three siblings were being comforted at their Claremorris home today. A family member said they were too upset to speak.

Heartbroken friends have paid tribute to the popular teen on social media.

The town was in shock as news of the tragic incident spread.

Local man Austin Garvin said the tragedy was devastating for the town and the families involved.

He said there were a large number of Eastern Europeans living in the town where they had integrated well.

"This is devastating for the town. It's devastated for the families our hearts go out to them, Especially at Christmas this is the last thing any family wants to hear," he added.
