L.A. teachers union raises dues, vows to fight rise of charter schools

Los Angeles teachers have agreed to raise their membership
dues after union leaders said they needed more money to battle the
growth of non-union charter schools and other challenges to the
traditional public education system.The 30% increase was supported by 82% of the members of the United Teachers Los Angeles who voted, union officials said today. Teachers will now pay nearly $1,000 per year in annual fees.
