What
Christmas would be complete without a last minute reference to George
Orwell's 1984? Here is Edward Snowden's Christmas message, as released
by the AP and aired on BBC Channel 4.
And here, dear readers, is a poem for you:
T'was the night before Christmas and throughout the day,
Edward Snowden made a video, about NSA.
The holiday greeting, so warm with affection,
Was also a warning about data collection.
With citizens snuggled, securely in beds,
NSA dreamed of ways to get into their heads
Through emails and phone calls and warrantless taps,
meta-data was gathered and kept under wraps,
Dating sites, Facebook all caught in their draft,
While spying in games of World of Warcraft,
Ed Snowden has called for an end to is fast,
Lest privacy become a thing of the past,
So as your iPad and smartphone continue the tracking,
Of your movements by companies with government backing,
Enjoy all the gifts that come Christmas morning,
And consider these words and consider their warning.
