GOP Rep to Spoiled American Workers: ‘I Would Vote To Repeal the Minimum Wage’ (Video)

Fast food workers across the nation are striking for a better living wage of $15 an hour, which doesn’t seem so unreasonable (then again, we here at AATTP are just evil Communist Marxists who believe people should not be forced to work two jobs just so they can buy food and afford rent in a one bedroom apartment in the worst part of town). Some lawmakers have made outlandish claims that an increase in wages will directly result in a huge spike in food prices. While it is true that a Big Mac may go up a few measly cents, that flawed argument has been debunked for quite a while now. According to Think Progress, in Australia, where the minimum wage is $14.50 an hour, a Big Mac costs only 6 cents more than it does in the United States.

Currently, the federal minimum wage is at a stagnant $7.25 an hour, which means if a full-time worker does not have taxes taken out of their check or miss any days, they are earning $15,080 a year. An increase in minimum wage has not been done since 2009, but Republican representative Joe Barton (R-TX) thinks that the minimum wage is outdated and should be repealed. Yes, according to Barton, $7.25 an hour is apparently too much to provide to these hard working Americans.

"I think it's outlived its usefulness...It may have been of some value back in the Great Depression. I would vote to repeal the minimum wage."

Fortunately for America, Barton is a member of the most lethargic Congress in the history of the country, so it is highly unlikely that his brilliant idea will come to fruition.
