A bullet to the head
The Georgia Legislature recently pass The Safe Protect Carry Act and sent to Governor Nathan Deal for signing. This bill contains some absolutely insane provisions.
These include reducing penalties for deliberately pointing a gun at another person without justification (a nightmare for persons subjected to spousal abuse), forbidding state law enforcement officers from checking to see if a person acting suspiciously has a carry permit, thus making the concept of permits obsolete and endangering our police, giving even convicted felons the right to use our state's ill-advised stand-your-ground defense if they shoot someone, arming ill-trained school employees in grades K-12, allowing persons to carry guns into bars, and allowing hunters to use silencers.
The bill has nothing to do with protecting Second Amendment rights and everything to do with removing any responsibility or accountability from gun users, and protecting and expanding the gun industry's market share. It is a bullet to the head from the gun lobby.
Governor Deal can choose to stand up for the safety of all his constituents or he can kowtow to the Washington gun lobby and give felons a license to kill. It's an election year, and the temptation to side with vocal firearm fetishists is a strong one. So please call Gov. Deal at 404-656-1776 and tell him to do the right thing for all our state's citizens and to veto this totally insane bill. If you do not, it may well become state law.
