Limbaugh Dodged Vietnam Draft Due to Anal CystShort link to this page: http://s-r.co/ac |
Rush Limbaugh has been outspoken about calling others , including Bill Clinton, "draft dodgers." At the same time Limbaugh has denied that he himself dodged the draft because of a pilonidal cyst--essentially a giant pimple in one's butt crack. The following comes from an exchange Limbaugh had with a caller named Greg in December, 2002:
Greg: Rush you never mentioned how. you dodged the Vietnam draft.LIMBAUGH: I didn’tGREG: Yes, you did. You claimed you had a boil on your butt—[Limbaugh mutes Greg]LIMBAUGH: No, you see, that is, that’s part of popular mythology that is out there that I have not whined nor complained about, Greg. But that is just a bunch of internet BS and hyperbole. Never happened. Was not the cause, wasn’t the case...But, until you can get your facts straight and stop believing a bunch of internet B.S. and hyperbole, you guys see, this is exactly what they have been doing for fourteen years, my friends. And we haven’t been complaining about it--we haven’t been whining about it. And not one thing he said has anything to do with the ideas that are important to the American people today.Audio
But the truth according to Limbaugh's family and even himself is quite at odds with Limbaugh's claims.
Limbaugh comes from an influential Missouri family which includes federal judges and prosecutors. Limbaugh's grandfather was a member of the Missouri House of
Representatives, and the Federal Courthouse in Limbaugh's hometown Cape Girardeau is named after him.
When Limbaugh dropped out of college at the height of the Vietnam War, it appears he called on this family influence as well as a creative doctor's examination in order to avoid being sent overseas:
When Rush Limbaugh first came of draft age he held a 2-S (college deferment) Selective Service System classification as a student at Southeast Missouri State University in 1969-70, but after he dropped out of college at the end of his first year he no longer qualified for a student deferment and was subject to being reclassified as 1-A (available immediately for military service) and drafted. Selective Service System records show that Limbaugh was reclassified as 1-Y (qualified for service only in time of [declared] war or national emergency) on 24 November 1970, which effectively ended his draft eligibility and ensured that he would not be called for service.
According to Limbaugh's own biographer, Paul D. Colford, the reason for the reclassification was
...a physical found that he had an "inoperable pilonidal cyst" and "a football knee from high school."
Ryland Meyr, who coached Limbaugh for the only season the radio
host played high school football, said he couldn't remember Limbaugh suffering any injuries.
There were, however, plenty of witnesses to the anal cyst.
Limbaugh's brother David Limbaugh said "Rush had a student deferment and, like his father, had a pilonidal cyst on his ass which qualified him for a medical deferment." And Limbaugh's mother said she didn't know if her son had a physical or not, but that "he did have a pilonidal cyst like his father."
Even Limbaugh himself--at an appearance in Manhattan in 1992 --admitted the truth when asked about it at an unguarded moment:
"I had student deferments in college and, upon taking a physical, was discovered to have a physical — uh, by virtue of what the military says, I didn't even know it existed — a physical deferment and then the lottery system came along, when they chose your lot by birthdate, and mine was high. And I did not want to go — just as Governor Clinton didn't."
This chickenhawk needs to stop attacking others over their lack of military service (and get that butt crack looked at!).
