Heard
on CNN this morning that there was a bank robbery in Beverly Hills. A
black man was arrested nearby and held for six hours, yet he is a famous
producer in the entertainment industry, had just left a restaurant with
a friend (so had a public alibi) but just being black was sufficient
for police to apprehend him. With no evidence against this black man,
he was fingerprinted, mug shot, and all the rest that goes along with an
arrest.... but not a shred of evidence, he was already convicted. It
took six hours but he was finally released with an apology, but what if
he had been an unemployed black man, that was pounding the pavement
looking for work? It wouldn't have gone well for him, and 'innocent
until proven guilty' is bullshit and not even worth the air that it
takes to speak those few words. Guilt by color is more like.
A few minutes of questions and verification of person and status would
have cleared this black man, but the police saw fit to convict him on
sight without even looking into the matter.
It
really is sickening that just being black is enough to be arrested, and
let's be honest, convicted........for anything and nothing.
This black producer should sue the police department, because if he does
not, this kind of crap will go on forever and these types of actions by
police need to be publicized and in turn, changed. It has to stop.
