Giant 130ft wide sinkhole appears near Russian mine after flooding, forcing thousands of miners to stay in their homes
A sinkhole between 100ft and 130ft wide has opened several
miles to the east of a potash mine in ther Perm region of Russia as
2,000 miners have been urged to stay at home. The mine is owned by the
world's largest producer of potash - a chemical compound used in
fertiliser. One bank has estimated that the producer could lose almost
half of its output thanks to the accident.
