Dog Found Abandoned At Train Station Next To Suitcase Filled With His Belongings

On January 2nd, a young male shar-pei named Kai was discovered abandoned
at a Scottish train station. He was tied to a banister by a leash, and
was sitting next to a suitcase filled with his belongings.
Inside
the suitcase was a food bowl, some dog food, a pillow and toy. Despite
the fact that Kai appeared to be in good health and was found with his
canine essentials, the unidentified person who left the animals is still
guilty of neglect. Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals (SPCA) Inspector Stewart Taylor said:
“Regardless of the fact Kai was left with his belongings, this was still a cruel incident and we are keen to identify the person responsible. If anyone can help we would ask them to get in touch as soon as possible.”
In
Scotland, abandoning an animal is a serious offense – and one incident
of neglect can be enough to ban a person from ever owning animals again.
Kai
was microchipped – which helped officials trace the dog back to one of
his previous owners. However, the last identified owner could not give
them any information on Kai’s new owner, who had taken ownership of the
dog in 2013 through Gumtree – the U.K. version of Craigslist.
Kai has been taken in by the Scottish SPCA, and will remain under their care until a true family is found for Kai. The group said:
“Kai is around two to three years old and is a lovely dog with a nice nature.”
Ben Supple, a spokesman for the Scottish
SPCA, said that the search for a new home for Kai looks promising:
“We haven’t as yet found a home for Kai though we’ve been inundated with offers and will ensure we find him the right owner.”
The search for the person who abandoned this animal is ongoing. If they are found, they could
be facing a charge under Scotland’s Animal Health and Welfare Act.
Information regarding Kai can be given via the charity’s animal helpline at 03000 999 999.
