First LGBT magazine launches in East Texas
LONGVIEW, TEXAS (KETK) — The LGBT community is breaking ground in East Texas.
Echo Magazine is the first magazine in East Texas targeted to the LGBT community and launched its first issue this week.
Editor Ben Valencia said they wanted to create a unique magazine that would give a voice to LGBT community.
He
says the goal of the magazine is to be classy and appeal to everyone by
covering a variety of topics from fashion to more serious topics.
"Mostly
its about education and stories about people in the LGBT community for
other people to read and understand outlets for people when they need
help where do they go what do they do what does a teenager do when their
parents kick them out for coming out of the closet, you know what
happens."
He said they were afraid of how the magazine would be received by the entire community, and so far it has been all positive.
The magazine is headquarted in Longview.
