Newlyweds Lance Bass and Michael
Turchin say it's okay for closeted lawmakers who oppose rights to be
outed against their will.
Bass and Turchin's December wedding was
the subject of a groundbreaking E! special which aired Thursday.
Appearing on The Meredith Vieira
Show, host Meredith Vieira asked the couple about an openly gay
Alabama lawmaker's threat to reveal the adulterous affairs of
colleagues who oppose marriage equality based on so-called family
values.
“I think you have to keep politicians
honest,” said Bass, who rose to fame as a member of the boy band
NSync. “I'm never about outing people at all but when it comes to
voting against my right to live my life the way I want to and my
pursuit of happiness? Then, I'm all for it. Out them.”
“If you're going to work to suppress
a group of people and yet you are living – in your eyes – an
equally immoral life, if someone wants to make you accountable, then
I think they should,” Turchin added.
Bass' sexuality was the subject of
intense media speculation before he came out publicly in 2006 on the
cover of People.
