Black Lives Matter protesters say two white supremacists shot five
people at a Black Lives Matter sit-in near a Minneapolis police station
late Monday.
Demonstrators have been conducting a vigil outside the station over the
death of 24-year-old Jamar Clark, who was fatally shot by a white
police officer on Nov. 15, triggering a Justice Department
investigation. Miski Noor, a spokeswoman for the local BLM group, said
three white male counter-demonstrators arrived at the scene “as they
have most nights.” When a group of protesters tried to move them away,
Noor said two of the men opened fire and then fled. All five of those
shot have non-life-threatening injuries, police spokesman John Elder
told the AP. Early Tuesday,
Minneapolis Police tweeted they are searching for three white suspects.
Clark’s brother, Eddie Sutton, issued a statement calling for the end
of the occupation “out of imminent concern” for the safety of
protesters.
