A handsome, white German shepherd named "Hank" recently revealed the depth of his devotion to a woman who had fostered him for a short period of time. According to Thursday's publication of the Commercial Appeal, Hank was saved from a Memphis, Tennessee, animal shelter in October by a woman named Rachel Kauffman.
Kauffman intended to keep the homeless dog for just a few days until he could go to a long-term foster home, but Hank had other plans. After six days together, Kauffman transferred Hank to his long-term foster home in East Memphis - he was supposed to stay there until he was healthy enough for a permanent adoption.
Though Hank was supposed to stay at his new foster home for an extended period of time, Hank had already given his heart to the person that first saved him from the shelter. Not long after arriving to his new foster home, Hank managed to unlock a door at the house and he escaped; the determined dog began what would turn out to be an estimated 11 mile trek back to Kauffman's home.
According to reports, it took a couple of days, but Hank ultimately found his way right back to Kauffman's porch - his unwavering devotion was enough to win her heart. Kauffman told the publication, "He traveled 11 miles to get back to me ... I can't fathom how he traveled that far across town that fast to get back to me, when it's meant to be, it's meant to be."
