A report issued by the Black Youth Project at the University of Chicago
says more than half of black millennials know someone who has been the
victim of police violence or harassment. The report tracked responses
over a decade, predating the Black Lives Matter movement. More than 54
percent of black millennials answered yes to the question of “Have you
or anyone you know experienced harassment or violence at the hands of
the police?” in 2009, compared to one-third of white millennials, 28
percent of Asian Americans, and a quarter of Latinos. But 71 percent of
black millennials nonetheless felt police were there to protect them. |
