New execution method proposed for California

California proposed a new method for executing prisoners today, a single-drug lethal injection formula that could restart capital punishment after a 10-year hiatus.
Executions are not likely to resume immediately. Public review could last a year, and court challenges may follow. The proposal stems from a lawsuit against the state by crime victims; a settlement required the state to devise a new lethal injection method.
