A Maryland police department has released cellphone video showing
Officer Jenchesky Santiago threatening an unarmed man at gunpoint during
an investigatory stop on May 10, 2014. Santiago was convicted Wednesday
of first- and second-degree assault, misconduct in office, and the use
of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence. The Prince
George’s County Police Department published the video in the interest of
transparency following the officer’s conviction. In the footage,
Santiago is seen shouting at a driver he claimed was illegally parked in
front of a home. When the driver’s passenger attempted to enter the
home—where was a resident—the officer began to threaten him with a
firearm. |
