Monitoring numbers show solitary confinement case settlement working 

A year after the historic settlement in Ashker v. Governor of California mandated an end to indefinite solitary confinement in California, new data shows that the settlement succeeded in moving virtually all prisoners in that category out of solitary.
CCR's case has sought to address two dimensions of California's solitary confinement problem: long-term solitary and indefinite solitary. In Pelican Bay, the state's most notorious prison, 511 out of 513 prisoners who had been in solitary for more than 10 years have been released — 99.6%. Statewide, the number of prisoners in indefinite solitary confinement has dropped by over 99% as well (99.2% to be exact). Read more about the monitoring results here.
