Senate committee votes to repeal DOMA
The Senate Judiciary Committee this week voted along party lines to pass legislation that would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, which forbids federal recognition of the legal marriages of same-sex couples. The move was praised by LGBT advocates as a sign of progress, even though the bill is not expected to be enacted in the current Congress.
