‘Hero’ Doc Accused of Harvesting Stem Cells in Dirty Basements
The head of Italian stem-cell therapy company Stamina is facing an array of disturbing criminal charges, from exploiting terminally ill patients to harvesting stem cells in unsterilized basements. Barbie Latza Nadeau reports that Davide Vannoni charged patients up to $50,000 for his illegal experimental medicine and ran his company like a corrupt Mafia lord. Yet, for many Italians who believe his miracle cures may actually work, he is still considered a hero.
