New York State Police Respond to Possible Sighting of Prison Escapees |

Two convicted murderers who staged an elaborate escape from New York’s largest prison were believed to have been spotted by the State Police on Saturday in Friendship, N.Y., a person with knowledge of the investigation said. |
The “possible sighting,” the person said, raised the prospect of a capture two weeks after the men — Richard W. Matt, 48, and David Sweat, 35 — broke out of the maximum-security facility with the help of makeshift dummies, power tools and a tunnel. |
The developments on Saturday afternoon drew a swarm of law enforcement officers to Allegany County, in the southwestern corner of the state, as helicopters roared overhead and state troopers closed roadways. |
