It began with a cop killing a man armed only with a metal pole.
The people wanted justice.
The local police union guy wasn’t about to have any of it.
Calling himself an “activist,” the head of Louisville’s police union defended a letter he wrote to the city’s citizens, threatening to bring the wrath of the law down on the “sensationalists, liars and race-baiters” who criticize the efforts of the police department. River City Fraternal Order of Police head Dave Mutchler riled up the Kentucky city last week, saying the police — with the union’s backing — “will no longer stand on the sidelines while anyone continues to assault and demonize us,” before adding “they will use deadly force back if anyone uses deadly force against an officer or attempts to.”
Mutchler’s letter was prompted by criticism of a deadly police shooting on June 13th. The union head complained about “self appointed spokespersons who choose to remain blind to reason,” before adding, “Your idiocy and lies are what caused the destruction in Ferguson and other cities around our country and we won’t be tolerating that here.”
Mutchler continued, “Your flawed logic and lack of reason regarding events that occur in our society makes you appear stunningly inept. Let me help you. All citizens in Louisville, regardless of race, creed, color, gender or national origin have the SAME rights and responsibilities. No one gets a separate set of rules. Politicians may fear you and your tactics -- we do not. You and those you enable must abide by the law and comply with law enforcement like everyone else. If you refuse to comply or even worse, attack a law enforcement officer, expect to be met with force.”
Cops are some amazingly paranoid mother-slappers, dangerously so.
Dozens of demonstrators forced the temporary closure of the Louisville Metro Police headquarters on Monday afternoon in a protest that sought the firing of the local police union leader for his reaction to an officer-involved fatal shooting. The local Fraternal Order of Police chapter said Thursday in a letter to the community that “sensationalists, liars and race-baiters” were putting Louisville in danger, prompting calls for the resignation of chapter President Dave Mutchler.
Cops are aware their days of killing people with impunity might be numbered and they clearly are not happy about it. How DARE people ask questions and demand answers and demand accountability.People demanded it anyway, even the Mayor and the Chief of Police:
"Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and Police Chief Steve Conrad condemned the letter as did local activists, some of whom called for Mutchler to resign or be removed from the force."
I am thrilled to see this because blockading/occupying police departments is the next step in making the police reform their ways.”Please and thank you” are met with name calling and threats of violence so the protest efforts will be escalated.
It’s gonna be an interesting summer.
