U.S. to propose allowing cell phones during flights


The Federal Communications Commission is moving to allow passengers to use their cellphones on planes.

Officials said the agency will propose allowing calls once a plane reaches 10,000 feet. Phone use would still be banned during takeoff and landing. The commission is set to take up the matter at its meeting in December.

If approved, the proposal would grant individual airlines the power to decide whether to allow cell phone calls during the flight.
