Bill to ban "conversion therapy" fails in Ill. House
A measure seeking to outlaw "conversion therapy" on LGBT minors failed to pass the Illinois House on Thursday,
falling seven votes short on a roll call vote. Under the bill, medical
practitioners who used the treatment would have been in danger of having
their licenses revoked. "The practice of conversion therapy is
dismissed by every major scientific organization and should not be
utilized," said state Rep. Kelly Cassidy, an openly lesbian lawmaker who
proposed the bill.
