Israel is suspending its involvement in U.S.-led peace talks
and is planning a series of sanctions against the Palestinians, Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said today. The decision came at the end of a six-hour cabinet meeting that followed Wednesday’s announcement of a reconciliation between Palestinian factions that would bring the militant Islamist movement Hamas into a new Palestinian government within weeks and into other national institutions later.
The reconciliation agreement was the latest in a long chain of events that had plagued the peace talks led by Secretary of State John F. Kerry.
