Swath of Mexico hit by quake; magnitude put at 7

A powerful earthquake shook a wide area of Mexico today, with
the Mexican Seismological Institute giving it a preliminary magnitude of
7.The epicenter was near Tecpan, in the coastal state of Guerrero about 180 miles southwest of the capital.
Authorities said they were looking for damage and injuries.
