Swath of Mexico hit by quake; magnitude put at 7

A powerful earthquake shook a wide area of Mexico today, with the Mexican Seismological Institute giving it a preliminary magnitude of 7.
The epicenter was near Tecpan, in the coastal state of Guerrero about 180 miles southwest of the capital.
Authorities said they were looking for damage and injuries.
